Types of signatures
Electronic signatures with digital certificate arrived to revolutionize the formalization of commercial relations, providing more agility, security and practicality to all signatories.
Electronic Signature
Any type of signature that uses electronic authentication, for example, tokens sent by email or SMS.
These authentication methods grant traceability of the signatures created in the platform which prevents fraud and ensures the security of the identity of the user as well as all of the informed data.
Electronic signatures are recommended to confirm the content of documents with low financial and judicial risk, still, they have legal validity in Brazil and in practically every country in the world.
In Brazil, the MP 2.200-2/2001 grants the judicial validity of this modality of signature and allows it to be used as evidence in eventual judicial proceedings.
Signature with Digital Certificate
The signature with Digital Certificate is a type of electronic signature in the remote modality. In this modality the user is identified and authenticated via a digital certificate (e-CPF or e-CNPJ) issued in the standards of ICP-Brazil and the Institute of Information Technology (ITI), of the Brazilian government.
The signatures with a digital certificate have a security system that uses cryptography throughout the entire operation and count with two steps of protection: a public key and a private key. This grants total inviolability in attempts of fraud, ensuring the authenticity and the non-repudiation of documents.
In this sense, it is the type of digital signature that has the higher level of juridical security since the certificate is stated in the final version of the contract as proof of the legality of the signature.

In order to lower the risk of fraud, and guarantee the authenticity of the electronic signatures made without digital certificates, the mechanisms of authentication have a primary role in on-line transactions.
They attest, for example, the time, location and IP address from where said signature was made, as well as confirm that the signatory has access to the e-mail accounts and telephone number attributed to them.
In this way, the authentication modalities grant credibility and security of the digital signatures, attesting the identity of the signatories and ensuring non-repudiation.

A digitally generated code sent to the signatory by email or SMS, granting them sole access to the document to be signed.
Timestamp
At the moment of the signature, the document receives a timestamp stating the date and time the document was signed. This creates legal proof that attests that a certain event happened before the issuing of the document, which can work as evidence in case of auditing or judicial cases.
IP address and geolocation of the signatories
In the act of the signing the IP address and geolocation of the signatories are also registered. This data prevents fraud and can be used as legal evidence of the authenticity of the signatures.
